Medical Team

Jewish Senior Life is proud to have our own full-time, in-house medical staff, offering consistency, stability and accessibility for our residents and patients. All are experts in their fields with over 180 years of combined experience, providing a higher quality of care and innovative solutions for healthy aging.


Karyn Leible, MD
Senior Vice President, Medical Services / Chief Medical Officer


 
Dr. Karen Leible joins Jewish Senior Life as its Senior Vice President, Medical Services and Chief Medical Officer. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing JSL's Medical Department. 
Prior to joining our Medical Team, she work at Pinon Management Company in Lakewood, CO, where she had clinical oversight of 12 long term care facilities.

Dr. Leible is currently the President of the American Medical Directors Assocation. She completed her M.D. degree at the Unviersity of Colorado School of Medicine, and her resident in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Geriatrics also at the University of Colorado. 

Dr. Leible is Board Certified in Interal Medicaine, Hospice and Palliative Care and is a Certified Medical Director. 


 Bernard Shore, MD
Attending Physician, Long Term Care / Physician House Calls

 
Dr. Shore has been a member of the Jewish Home Medical Team since 1986. His gentleness with residents and focus on growing older while maintaining quality of living has made him a respected member of the Medical Team. In addition to providing care to long-term care residents, Dr. Shore also provides service to Jewish Senior Life’s Physician House Calls patients.
 
He previously served as Medical Director of the Jewish Home of Rochester from 1986 to 2007. He also served at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in a number of positions, including Director of Geriatric Education for the University of Rochester Highland Hospital and Medical Department. He is a member of the American Geriatrics Society and has served on the Board of Directors for the New York Medical Directors Association.
 
Dr. Shore completed his M.D. degree at Temple University School of Medicine. He is certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine, Diplomate in Geriatric Medicine, and American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.


 Lisa Vargish, MD
Attending Physician, Long Term Care / Physician House Calls

Dr. Lisa Vargish joined our team of medical professionals in 2009 as a full-time attending physician caring for residents of the Jewish Home, as well as participants of the Physician House Calls Program. Dr. Vargish comes to us from the University of Chicago, where she worked in the Geriatrics Department making house calls to homebound elders in Chicago, and teaching medical students and internal medicine residents. She received her M.D. from the University of Chicago, and subsequently completed her internship and residency in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. She is fellowship trained in Geriatrics.

Dr. Vargish is very committed to medical research and education, and was recently an instructor at the University of Chicago Hospitals' Department of Medicine and at the Chicago Family Health Center. She is an active member of the American Geriatric Society, American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.


 Anne Olinger, MD
Attending Physician, Transitional Care Program

Dr. Anne Olinger joined the Jewish Home of Rochester in February 2010. She is an attending physician seeing patients in our Transitional Care Program and assisting Dr. Heppard with improving medical operation on the TCU.  Dr. Olinger will be responsible for patient care to our residents on 2SW.

Dr. Olinger received her MD degree from Case Western Reserve University and completed her residency in internal medicine in geriatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She is an active member of the American Geriatrics Society and the American Medical Directors Association. Dr. Olinger previously worked at Independent Living for Seniors where she served as Medical Director since 2006.


Bonnie R. Crawford
Nurse Practitioner, Long Term Care

Bonnie Crawford brings over 35 years of experience to the Jewish Home of Rochester. She obtained her M.S. as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner at Nazareth College of Rochester. She is licensed as an Advanced Practice R.N. – Gerontology, and a licensed Professional Registered Nurse. 

Ms. Crawford is a member of the Gerontological Nurse Practitioners of Greater Rochester, New York, and the National Conference of Gerontological Nurse Practitioners.
