Programs & Services
Atkin Center for Outpatient Rehabilitation
The Atkin Center for Outpatient Rehabilitation (ACOR) provides multi-disciplinary rehabilitation services for adults, seniors and medically-complex patients, assisting them in remaining independent in their own homes. Our individualized treatment programs include:
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Speech and language therapy
- Massage therapy
- Orthopedic and spine rehabilitation
- LSVT Big and Loud
- Low vision and functional vision services
- Bioness L300 and H200 NMES systems
- Manual therapy
- Transportation available within Monroe County
For individuals experiencing difficulty swallowing, ACOR provides on-site Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluations of Swallowing (FEES). A certified Endoscopist, who is also a Speech Language Pathologist, completes an evaluation on the individual. The evaluation provides for a thorough assessment of the individual’s swallowing ability, determines appropriate treatment techniques and other management options. The FEES evaluation is key for individuals experiencing difficulty after:
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Head injuries
- General neurological disorders
- Cognitive impairments
- Head and/or neck surgeries
Atkin Center for Outpatient Rehabilitation Balance Center of Excellence features the state-of-the-art Biodex Balance System. Our program is designed for those who have balance or walking instability or a history of falls.
In 2014, ACOR launched LSVT Loud and Big program. Our speech-language pathologists certified in LSVT Loud can help patients with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders to speak with confidence and with clarity. Through intensive voice exercises, this method teachers patients to be aware of sensory feedback from their voice and increase the volumes and variation of their speech.
Our Occupational and Physical Therapists are now certified in LSVT Big therapy allowing us to help people with Parkinson’s disease to improve their movement. LSVT Big often yields measurable results within the first hour of treatment and over time it not only helps patients to improve their movement, it also helps them to build confidence in themselves. BIG therapy can also be a benefit for those whose motor function has been affected by other conditions including stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.
Not only are we the only outpatient provider of LSVT Big and Loud in Rochester, we are the only facility in upstate New York to provide this care across all disciplines (PT, OT, and SLP) from certified LSVT clinicians.
We have partnered with Rochester Rehabilitation’s DriveOn program to help seniors drive safely, comfortably and stress-free. Together, our occupational therapists work with DriveOn’s experienced driver specialists to evaluate driving ability and create a customized driver training program to help you maintain your independence.
